Employee Spotlight: Melina Morokhovich

T2 has some of the brightest minds in the parking industry, and each employee brings a unique set of talents and experiences to the table. We thought you might like to learn more about these talented individuals. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll get to know one employee each month. This month we talked to Melina Morokhovich, a Territory Manager for our Flex/PE solution.

Melina-MorokhovichWhere did you grow up?

I grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

What drew you to working in sales?

I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce degree so I always knew that I would do something business-related, but I wasn’t sure what that would look like. My brother-in-law sold pneumatic automatic door openers for people with disabilities and he was so passionate about it, you couldn’t help but be interested. While selling, he met so many interesting people and traveled to different destinations. His passion and those two benefits drew me to consider sales as a career.

How did you end up in the parking industry?

I didn’t know that parking was even an industry! My husband was a Regional Sales Manager at Digital Payment Technologies and when he would tell me that he was leaving for a parking conference, I would joke with him that he was actually going on a camping trip with his buddies. Oh sure, a “parking” conference! Parking is a fascinating business – the work is never boring and the people are amazing. I am so thankful that I “ended up” in parking.

What do you do as a Territory Manager for T2?

As a Territory Manager, I am responsible for new T2 Flex sales for the Permits and Enforcement solution line. I also work closely with Account Managers and Flex Sales Consultants to support our existing customers as a member of the Account Management Team.

What’s something that you think people don’t know about parking that you find interesting?

Before working in the parking industry, I thought that free parking was best. Now that I work in parking, I understand the complexity of the topic, the benefits of paid parking, and the high costs of free parking. Thanks to Dr. Shoup, people in parking know that parking is like fish: if you let everyone fish for free (give away free parking spaces), it can lead to overfishing (auto dependence, urban sprawl, extravagant energy use, etc.).

What do you enjoy about working at T2?

The opportunity to try different roles and different product lines. T2 has been wonderful at giving me the opportunity to work in various departments and product lines throughout my T2 career: Inside Sales (Pay Stations), Account Management (all product lines), and Territory Management (Permits and Enforcement). Cross-training is very valuable in any industry, but even more so in parking because every customer’s approach to parking is slightly different.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I have lived in many different countries, including Canada, the United States, England, the Netherlands, and Japan. I love to travel and learn about different cultures, and there is no better way to learn than by living there and really immersing yourself in day-to-day life.
